Political Action and Judicial Review

Political Action & Judicial Review

One of GABWA’s missions is to increase the number of Black females who serve in the judiciary and other elected offices.

We firmly believe that our public officers and judges should be representative of the community in which they serve and that our presence and voice in the electoral and appointment process can have a positive impact.  We have made tremendous strides in accomplishing our mission over the past thirty years with GABWA members serving in elected public office and in the judiciary.

Tremendous opportunities lie ahead for GABWA to continue to increase the representation of its members in the judiciary and in public office state wide.  GABWA has a proud history of active participation in the election and appointment process.

As an organization, we endorse candidates for particular political offices.  We have championed our interest in increasing the numbers of diverse, well-qualified applicants for public office regardless of political affiliations.

Through our Judicial Review Committee, we provide input to judicial appointing authorities, including the state Judicial
Nomination Commission, about prospective judicial candidates.

For further information on our Judicial Review Committee, please contact our 2024 Chairs Natasha S.L. Banks and ShaMiracle Rankin at judicial.review@gabwa.org.
